GoldenEar Technology ran demonstrations at CEDIA 2018 of the streaming-media-capable DigitalAktiv 3: an ultra-high-performance powered compact bookshelf speaker that is outfitted for wireless Bluetooth reception and Wi-Fi reception handled by Chromecast.
The DA3 is scheduled for shipment in Q2 of 2019 and will work with all the latest streaming services via any Cast-capable device such as a smartphone or computer, with the Cast module supporting both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. When used as a stereo pair, two DigitalAktiv 3s link wirelessly via a low-latency WIA radio; a single speaker is also usable for playing stereo source material, said GoldenEar. And voice command control will be possible, using any Google Home device. The speaker will also support network software updates.
The DigitalAktiv 3’s piano-black monocoque cabinet houses a six-inch cast-basket bass/midrange driver – based on the design of the one in the Triton Reference – along with the same HVFR tweeter used in that speaker, and two inertially balanced eight-inch passive radiators.
GoldenEar president Sandy Gross said the projected retail pricing for the DigitalAktiv 3 is $2,000/pair.
