One Voice: CEDIA Celebrates 20 Years of Excellence
While we were designing this issue of CustomRetailer, I kept thinking back to the great leaps and bounds the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association has made in the last two decades. It really has been the birth of an entirely new industry and career for thousands of people...and not to mention, it has improved the lifestyles and properties of countless homeowners and commercial endeavors.
So where does CEDIA and the industry in general go from here? While I was talking to CEDIA founding members in compiling this issue, one recurring theme was apparent, it is education and, of course, adapting your business to meet the demands of a changing world. Publications, online sites, e-newsletter blasts, social networking and more, such as what CustomRetailer does, are a great way to communicate up-to-the-minute business strategies, news, videos and images to as wide an array of people as possible.
Of course, attending EXPO provides you and your team with the hands-on education required to stay up to date on the latest technologies. It also allows you to hear first-hand from experts what we can expect from legislation, manufacturers and peers alike about how our industry is shaping and moving forward.
Then there is the future, what my publisher Carol Campbell has outlined for you below: Innovation and meeting the demands of the changing customer in an ever-changing world.
As you read this issue of CustomRetailer—read it on the plane on the way home from CEDIA EXPO—take your time and comprehend the columns and features from some of the industry's most successful business people. Follow the advice of Elly Valas, Rob Ain, Frank Sterns, Leslie Shiner and Charles O'Meara—people who have been in the trenches and won the good fight. Learn from industry tech-guru Joe Kane about the latest screen technology. Laugh, and be inspired by the CEDIA members who spoke to us about CEDIA past, present and future.
