CEDIA Acquires Technology & Business Summit, Bolsters Support for Community
Focused on strengthening their relationship with the CI community, CEDIA has acquired the Technology & Business Summit to court an influential group of independent manufacturer rep firms and give them a platform, possibly for the first time ever, to shape their industry.
The goal is simple. CEDIA has been a stalwart of the custom integration business for decades, and the Tech & Business Summit was primarily comprised of non-CEDIA members. This acquisition reflects a desire to influence the association's direction on a grander scale and express industry concerns and educational needs from an outsiders perspective. CEDIA has said as much in their three-year plan, noting that it is "CEDIA’s responsibility is to deliver education pathways to support" a healthy industry.
"Adding the Technology & Business Summits to our portfolio of events provides another important milestone in CEDIA’s strategic plan," said Global President and CEO Tabatha O’Connor in a press release. "We are working diligently to make CEDIA more accessible by providing more regional education and opportunities for members to connect with the association and with each other. These events will also afford CEDIA the opportunity to provide deeper support for the manufacturer representative community."
At the helm of the Technology & Business Summit is the owner of Clarity AV International Mark Cichowski. His vision helped craft each show's purpose, and he will remain as a consultant supporting the effort of the cross-country conferences going forward.
Leveraging Cichowski's experience, the Technology & Business Summit tackled pain points within the community on a granular level and opened conversations in an entirely new way. For example, a recent keynote involving Dan Quigley, STO and senior manager for Alexa Smart Home, gave 100's of independent integrators a one-on-one opportunity within one of the most influential manufacturers to date.
Cichowski's vision to bring CEDIA eye-to-eye with a new audience of independent dealers and national reps in an affordable and unique way not only underscores the associations desire to strengthen the industry, it
"As we move forward, the plan is to keep the Tech Summit format and overall structure intact. The one-day format allows home tech pros the chance to participate in cutting-edge education, interact with manufacturers, learn about new products, and network without a big time or travel commitment," Tabatha said. "And, they will continue to be free to attend."
