Wireless, multi-room music system manufacturer Bluesound announced today that all of the brand’s Generation 2i streaming music players will receive a “much-anticipated software update” that will bring Apple AirPlay 2 support. In receiving the update, users will be able to stream audio from their iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers to the now-compatible Bluesound systems.
The update will begin to roll out to Gen 2i owners on December 11th when they’ll receive a prompt to update to the latest version of BluOS. Beyond getting the ability to stream their podcasts, YouTube audio, music and more via Apple devices on the same WiFi network, the integration also gives Apple Music listeners the ability to control playback on Gen 2i devices using Siri voice control.
“From streaming music to a NODE 2i in a hi-fi system to driving the latest Netflix movie soundtrack to a PULSE SOUNDBAR 2i, AirPlay 2 seamlessly integrates the power of iOS devices with the high-fidelity audio performance of Bluesound,” the company explained in a statement announcing the integration. “Multiple Bluesound Gen 2i players can synchronously play the same stream, or users can opt to push different content to individual players around the home.”
In another bit of AirPlay 2 news, Bluesound said that Gen 2i users with older products in their home, they’ll be able to use their BluOS Controller app to group older previous generation players with the new Gen 2i unit, allowing them to play the same AirPlay 2 content throughout the enter system.
