BeoVision Eclipse is First 4K OLED from Bang & Olufsen, LG Partnership
Despite an inked deal in early 2016, the Bang & Olufsen partnership with LG has only just unfolded in the shape of the BeoVision Eclipse.
Bang & Olufsen have a few TVs in their portfolio right now - and have notably been making TVs for decades - but the BeoVision Eclipse is heavily influenced by LG's commitment to OLED. This is B&O's fourth 4K offering but the first to have an OLED screen and, more importantly, the first in their lineup to support Dolby Vision HDR. The OLED screen will have absolute black and an infinite contrast ratio thanks to the technologies provided by LG, the three-pete champions of CE Week's TV Shootout.
The BeoVision Eclipse features a 3-channel soundbar cutting through the lower-third of the screen that is the beautiful — if nothing else quirky — aesthetic expected from B&O. The soundbar is offered in six variations, five colored fabrics and one with just the aluminum grill. B&O also notes their patented aluminum grill a progression of larger holes from top to bottom to allow more airflow for lower frequencies. The 450-watt sound bar is equipped with one 1-inch tweeter, two 2.5-inch full range drivers, and three 4-inch woofers and has a 7.1 surround sound module to play nice with home theater setups.
Following a common theme for most B&O products, the BeoVision Eclipse has multi-room technology, so homeowners can connect their $40,000 speakers effortlessly to the Eclipse or stream audio to just the soundbar. It also has LG's webOS 3.5 that supports Netflix, YouTube, Deezer with built-in services like Spotify Connect, Chromecast, and AirPlay.
Playing into the "hidden in plain sight" mantra, B&O has a motorized mount that is mostly hidden within the speaker that can be manually or automatically operated up to 60-degrees in one direction (mounted either on the left or right side) or can be mounted on a motorized stand that was introduced with the BeoVision Avant. A thin remote control can be used to operate the mount, but B&O says the universal smart remote can control all of your devices including Blu-Ray players to game consoles.
Offered in 55- and 65-inch sizes, the Bang & Olufsen Beovision Eclipse will retail at $10,990 and $15,990 in September in Europe - slated for sometime in October for U.S. retail.
