Belkin Previews Phyn Plus Water Assistant at Luxury Technology Show
Belkin’s newest label is called Phyn (pronounced “fin”) and its inaugural market entry, on display at the recent Luxury Technology Show, was the Phyn Plus Smart Water Assistant – a sophisticated combination leak sensor and water monitor that attaches to a home’s main water line.
It then begins to “fingerprint” the unique signature, or flow profile, of each water-related fixture in a home, taking readings at the pace of 244 times per second, while learning what’s the normal water output for faucets, toilets, showers, etc. If it detects a leak, it will automatically shut off the water for the whole home via the main water line, thus stopping water flow to all individual fixtures.
It also provides immediate and detailed notifications to a smartphone about leakages. The app enables a homeowner to monitor water usage by the month, week, day or hour as well, and, through daily plumbing checks, is said to be able to catch minor leaks and water pressure irregularities before these events escalate into something less manageable. The product is the result of a joint partnership between Belkin and a Uponor, a Finnish manufacturer of flexible plumbing.
