AVAD Opens N.J. Facility
AVAD hosted the grand opening of its Pine Brook, N.J., distribution facility last week. About 140 dealers checked out the latest products from roughly 40 manufacturers.
The 33,000-square-foot Pine Brook facility, at 10 New Maple Ave, replaces a former 18,000-square-foot building in Piscataway, N.J.
The additional space at the new location will enable AVAD to carry more inventory, which will feed four surrounding satellite centers; offer dealers larger "experience centers" for more complete solution demonstrations; and hold larger training sessions, said Wally Whinna, AVAD's vice president of marketing.
The move follows AVAD's recent restructuring, in which 10 distribution centers were closed across the country.
Business among AVAD's custom installers has ncreased during the last two months, mainly because they are getting used to going after new jobs instead of waiting for them, Whinna said.
AVAD has also developed a new commercial division because about 20 percent of its customers said they were in that marketing or thinking about entering it, Whinna said.
"That number is probably higher today," he said. "Those commercial jobs are something the installers used to walk away from. Now they can't afford to lose that business."
