Audio Pioneer Bose Has Died
Amar Gopal Bose, an audio engineering and entrepreneurial pioneer and founder of Bose Corp., one of the better-known brands in consumer electronics, passed away Friday at the age of 83.
Bose, a longtime MIT professor, founded Bose in 1964, and the company has been a major force in home audio, car audio, headphones and much more.
Born in Philadelphia in 1929, Bose graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the early '50s. Bose was the majority owner of the company until 2011, when he donated a majority of the company's shares to the university.
Bose was inducted into the Dealerscope Hall of Fame in 2002 and the CE Hall of Fame in 2007.
