15 Minutes With:: Lawrence Davis, Atlantic Technology
CustomRetailer: We’ve been hearing a lot about this new H-PAS technology. Is Atlantic now the H-PAS company?
Lawrence Davis: That’s a great question. Atlantic Technology currently has two successful H-PAS products—the AT-1 floorstanding speaker and AT-2 bookshelf speaker—that we’ve already brought to market. The much-anticipated PowerBar 235 launched at CEDIA EXPO last month, and the response was phenomenal. As for non-H-PAS products, in 2012 alone, Atlantic introduced our second wireless accessory product (WA-5030); completely revamped our in-ceiling product line, introducing bezel-less magnetic grilles; and introduced two new in-wall products (IWTS-5 LCR and IWTS-10 LCR) with improved performance and price points.
Of course, we currently have other H-PAS products in various stages of development, so H-PAS is just one part of the future of Atlantic Technology products.
In 2013, you’ll begin to see the H-PAS technology utilized by other speaker manufacturers—including SpeakerCraft, among others—as they introduce their own products, utilizing our H-PAS technology.
CR: H-PAS products from other speaker manufacturers?
LD: Absolutely, Atlantic Technology is the exclusive licensor for H-PAS and we already have several licensees. We would be happy to meet with any manufacturer who would like to learn more about the possibilities and potential of H-PAS for their product and brand. Be on the lookout for new products featuring H-PAS from other manufacturers in 2013.
CR: Speaking of H-PAS, what’s the secret? What makes it work?
LD: That’s difficult to answer in a short and simple way. H-PAS captures the back wave of the mid-range driver, and utilizes a patented blend of just about every bass-reproducing technology known to man (bass reflex, transmission line, inverted horn, acoustic suspension) to amplify and tune that back wave so the cabinet (not the drivers) delivers tight accurate musical bass from small drivers and smaller cabinets. The system is, of course, totally passive. By the way, H-PAS is an acronym for Hybrid Pressure Acceleration System.
