CineTransformer with Sony Brings the ‘Mobile’ 4K Experience to NAB
The National Association of Broadcasters’ (NAB) annual show in Las Vegas this past April seemed to be all about the 4K or Ultra HD experience in all its technological forms, as every kind of device having anything to do with the format was prominently displayed and touted from banners and video walls in every display hall in the Las Vegas Convention Center. In the North Hall, this 4K presence was dramatically visible in the massive Sony booth.
Sony, a leading innovator of 4K technology, showed a wide spectrum of 4K capture, editing, and display devices, including its family of 4K commercial and consumer projectors, which showed images that vividly demonstrated why 4K will soon be the resolution consumers across the globe will expect—and demand—to see in their homes.
In the North Hall parking lot, meanwhile, a Miami-based company known as CineTransformer showed Sony 4K video technology to crowds of clearly thrilled show attendees in one of its uniquely innovative portable cinema trailers, which came complete with restrooms and a fully stocked concession stand. In fact, to refer to one of these expandable, self-contained, 91-seat theaters as a “trailer” does a real disservice to its engineering design and brilliant execution. Because while they appear to be very typical semi-type trailers, they in fact extend from the center out to each side, becoming a 91-seat theater. Stadium seating, no less, provides excellent views from literally every seating position inside the trailers, which are even home to two restrooms and a concession stand offering popcorn and all the usual theater treats.
The use of Stainless steel and bright aluminum in the fabrication of the theater room and lobby really speak to the fit, finish and the innovative engineering employed in the fabrication of the cinema unit. The stadium seats are so plush and comfortable, in fact, that when the lights go down you’d never know you weren’t at the local cineplex. To further the self-containment of the unit, an onboard generator provides all the power to provide full off-the-grid utility, including full-range air conditioning and all the electricity necessary to power the impressive audio-video system of the CineTransformer theater unit. The CineTransformer at NAB used a 4K Sony VW VPL1000ES with complimentary Sony electronics to show brilliant 2D and 3D images on a 120-inch-wide silver screen.
