AmTRAN Adds to JVC Flagship HDTV Line
AmTRAN Video added the SL42B-C and SL47B-C Razor-Edge E-LED (MSRP $799 for 42 inch; $899 for 47 inch, including four sets of passive 3D glasses.) to its flagship line of JVC-branded BlackSapphire HDTVs. Both sets are scheduled to ship at the end of this month.
Describing them as the "best of the best" of the JVC-branded TVs, Drew Pragliola, AmTRAN's vice president of sales, said the BlackSapphire sets will primarily sell through specialty CE dealers, although Sam's Club will carry them "as an experiment." The initial launch will go through brick-and-mortar retailers, but the sets could eventually be sold online and through e-tailers, Pragliola said, adding that AmTRAN will keep its strict MAP policy in place.
To set the BlackSapphire models apart from its competitors at retail, AmTran focused on improved sound quality, Pragliola said. The TVs feature Dolby Digital decoding and the XinemaSound 3D digital-signal processing platform to help deliver clean stereo separation, balanced audio, rich bass and clear voicing, he said. Two arrays of two downward firing speakers each sit at the base of the TVs.
"The selling point is the audio," Pragliola said, "that's why they need a trained sales floor."
AmTRAN has no immediate plans to launch a 4K UHD but could do so in about a year, Pragliola said.
The passive 3D BlackSapphire sets feature an almost bezel-free design 120Hz CrystalMotion frame rates, adaptive edge LED backlighting, 20-million: 1 contrast ratio, CrystalColor Enhancement, a USB media port, and 802.11n Wi-Fi. The Internet Connected Experience (I.C.E.) platform has preloaded including Netflix, Vudu and Pandora.
