Alexa-Powered Amazon Experience Centers Introduced
In a move that perhaps resembles a subtle bow to the power of showrooming, Amazon announced that it will open a number of interactive Amazon Experience Centers throughout the country. Designed to give visitors a taste of a real smart home environment that is powered by Alexa, the model homes have been built in conjunction with Miami-based home construction and real estate company Lennar.
Throughout these experience centers, consumers will be able to execute basic commands of an Alexa-driven smart home experience—things like controlling the television, lights, thermostat, shades, and more. According to Amazon, the homes will showcase how the customer can put Alexa and other Amazon services to work (like Prime and Home Services) to improve their everyday lives. The homes will be outfitted with an entire suite of Amazon products include Dash Buttons, Fire TVs, Echo speakers, and more.
"We wanted customers to experience a real home environment that showcases the convenience of the Alexa smart home experience, great entertainment available with Prime, and Home Services," Nish Lathia, general manager of Amazon Services, said in a statement. "We are excited to extend our relationship with Lennar with the launch of Amazon Experience Centers. As one of the nation's largest homebuilders, Lennar offers the potential to enable this experience within easy driving distance of millions of customers."
The experience centers will be “constantly updating” according to Amazon as new products, services, and features get added to the company’s portfolio. The locations are staffed by Amazon experts, which are described as being Amazon employees who are specially trained on the latest technology.
“Amazon’s ability to bring a home to life with Alexa smart home experiences, entertainment and services – coupled with their obsession with customer experience – is a natural extension of our Everything’s Included approach to homebuilding,” David Kaiserman, president of Lennar Ventures, said in the statement. “We picked Amazon because of our shared commitment to customers, their Amazon experts across the country, and their ability to connect customers with thousands of service providers through Amazon Home Services.”
Open now, the Amazon Experience Center model homes from Lennar are located in Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, DC. More experience center locations will be added over time.
