Ahead of CEDIA, Russound Adds Voice Control, Outdoor Speakers, Revamped Ceiling Speakers
Ready to make some noise, Russound is bringing a plethora of new goodies to the CEDIA Expo this year. Adding a newly updated line of residential and commercial loudspeakers, recently shipping an outdoor speaker, and reinventing their music streaming platform the British whole-house and multi-room hi-fi systems experts are very excited for 2017.
Updates to Ceiling Speaker Line
“We listen when our dealers tell us they need new or updated products,” says Charlie Porritt, Russound’s CEO. “And what dealers wanted was for Russound to simplify the line while offering improvements across the board.”
What the company has created for the new ceiling speaker line are logical steps between each model, presenting consumers with clear good, better and best options.
The line updates all current models and adds a new commercial version of the company’s top-selling RSF-610. Also featured across the line are all-new frame and tweeter bridge designs touting a new, cleaner look with no visible magnets, as well as wraparound PCBs for a high-end look.
The new entry-level ceiling speaker, IC-610, features a 6.5-inch polypropylene cone and ¾-inch pivoting PEI tweeter. The mid-level IC-620 steps the buyer up to a 6.5-inch Kevlar cone and 1-inch pivoting titanium tweeter. The top-level options start with the IC-630, featuring a 6.5-inch carbon fiber cone and 1-inch pivoting titanium tweeter.
Russound’s new ceiling speaker line also includes two more residential models at the top end: the IC-820, boasting an 8-inch Kevlar cone and 1-inch pivoting titanium tweeter, and the IC-610T, that comes with a dual voice-coil, 6.5-inch polypropylene cone, just like the IC-610, but adds a second ¾-inch PEI tweeter for stereo imaging from a single speaker.
The new commercial model, the IC-610-70V, features a 6.5-inch polypropylene cone and ¾-inch pivoting PEI tweeter, and has been designed to be the flush-mount speaker of choice with the XZone70V. It comes with an integrated transformer, and is perfect for any flush-mount jobs that don’t require UL.
Russound is also debuting a new in-wall LCR speaker at CEDIA that is sonically matched with its in-ceiling speakers. The new IW-LCR features a slim design, dual 4-inch Kevlar cones and a 1-inch pivoting titanium tweeter. It touts a versatile design that enables it to be used as a left, center or right speaker. There’s a dialog enhancement adjustment when the speaker is used as a center channel, something critical for adding clarity to typical TV audio.
Also new from the company at CEDIA is the latest in-wall XTS Touchscreen that increases the size of the high-resolution display from the prior model’s 4.7 inches to 5 inches. The new XTSPlus also features a quad core processor for speedier response, a redesigned POE for more efficient operation, and open access to Russound Store apps for installers who want to expand its use beyond the MyRussound app, and a universal backplate for worldwide use.
Outdoor Aesthetic, Big Time Sound
The new 70v/100v/8 ohm AW4-LS-BR speaker (SRP: $279) is ideal for all outdoor installations, in particular, light commercial projects that require clear, detailed sonics in occasionally crowded environments.
“Our commercial streaming system is designed to be an outstanding, reliable performer, especially outdoors where it sometimes can be a challenge to create a satisfying soundscape in a large area,” said Charlie Porritt, CEO, Russound. ”But, with our new landscape speakers, facilities managers and homeowners alike can enjoy exceptional audio year-round, even in the most challenging weather conditions.”
With an aesthetic design that blends well with landscapes, gardens, atriums, and outdoor dining areas, the AW4-LS-BR delivers clear, detailed sonics from a weather-proof cabinet that withstands the harshest weather conditions.
As good as it sounds, the two-way AW4-LS-BR is intended to be an installer’s best friend, with ½” NPS/NPT male connections for easy mounting, and color-stabilized composite construction that is designed to resist chipping, peeling or fading over the years.
Knowing that outdoor speaker placement scenarios can sometimes be challenging, Russound designed the AW4-LS-BR landscape speaker with 360° rotation and 120° vertical directional adjustment rotation (60° upward/60° downward) for pinpoint direction of sound.
Another benefit of the AW4-LS-BR is the speaker’s extraordinary flexibility. Russound added an easy-to-access tap switch for effortless wattage adjustment or to put the AW4-LS-BR into an 8-ohm bypass mode for compatibility with any standard low impedance amplifier.
Longevity is a key ingredient of the landscape model. ASA-based materials ensure maximum UV protection and overall endurance over the long haul, and the rust-proof aluminum grille protects the driver array through extremes in heat, cold, and humidity.
Streaming Never Sounded So Good
The new MBX-AMP (SRP: TBD) is a single-box solution that is easy to install and configure as a streaming audio system for residential installations, while access to SiriusXM for Business makes it a smart and reliable solution in light commercial projects. Russound designed the MBX-AMP to be a decentralized, amplified streaming solution for installers who want to offer the most up-to-date streaming media options to their clients.
Full control of the MBX-AMP is managed through the company’s MyRussound App as well as Russound’s XTS or XTSPlus touchscreens.
The MBX-AMP offers a powerful 50 watts per channel at 8 ohms, and is scalable for up to 32 rooms, with synchronized audio for up to 16 rooms. In addition to built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, it features voice control integration, and there will be driver support for Control4, URC and RTI controls.
Aside from streaming audio from popular internet sources, the MBX-AMP will also stream from DLNA-compliant audio sources, and will support Apple AirPlay, for easy, intuitive streaming
from smartphones and tablets. Additionally, it will feature Bluetooth with full AVRCP support, including metadata and album art from supported sources.
Though it is packed with myriad features, the industrial design is decidedly elegant, with an aesthetically appealing industrial design that is slim enough to hide behind a TV. In addition, the MBX-AMP is included in the Russound Certified Installer (RCI) Program. “RCI Required” models boast a feature designed to drastically reduce unauthorized online sales of the company’s products while ensuring that consumers receive the benefits of working with certified installation professionals.
“The MBX-AMP illustrates how we listen to our dealers before getting to work on a new product,” said Charlie Porritt, CEO, Russound. “When it came time to design a world class streaming audio system amp, we consulted with our customers to determine what features were critical, and what would be helpful when it comes to simplifying installation, configuration, and, of course, operation. The result is a product that answers the demands of our customers, with features and performance that go beyond anything else at this price point.”
