Not Just Another Show
Any of us who have been a part of the industry for more than a few months have had the displeas… uh, opportunity of attending one of the many tradeshows offered to those in the electronics industry. In all seriousness, these events can be a blessing or a curse depending on how you approach them. The upcoming CEDIA EXPO is certainly a case in point. Please allow us to make a few recommendations for getting the most out of your time at any tradeshow.
You will be amazed how much more effective you will be and how much more you will accomplish if you simply prioritize your efforts and schedule your time. This does not take a great deal of effort but it requires your focus and a bit of discipline.
The show is usually divided into a few segments. There is the education segment with various classes and seminars. This is a great opportunity to advance your level of knowledge and industry awareness. Make sure you carefully peruse the offerings and select those that will benefit you and your team. If you are bringing more than one person, assign them each specific courses and have them be prepared to give a detailed report at your follow-up meeting after the show. This will naturally increase the chances of them paying closer attention and taking notes. This not only benefits everyone else in your organization but also helps the attendee get more out of the session as well.
Of course, there is the tradeshow floor. Whenever you think of a tradeshow, this is typically the area that leaves the biggest emotional impact. However, it is only as important and effective as you make it. It is very easy to be overwhelmed by the huge displays and flashing lights, which often make you feel like you are accomplishing something when in reality your senses are simply being entertained.
