5 Questions for Sandy MacDonald of CEDIA Awards phenomenon La Scala
Sandy MacDonald is CEO of La Scala Home Cinema + Integrated Media in Vancouver, B.C., which won five awards at the CEDIA 2015 Awards dinner for its installations. We asked him about his mind-blowing night.
La Scala was the talk of the CEDIA awards banquet this year. Did you ever imagine you'd win five awards when you sat down that night?
Though we had some inkling that we’d win an award or two, we certainly did not expect to win five.
Why do you think your work stood out above everyone else's this year?
We encountered a client that wanted a myriad of features in a full-scale Crestron control system, and in a spectacular home. He was also interested in building a very comfortable home theater room. Thankfully, he put a lot of trust in our consultant’s abilities, allowing our team to design a system that would surely WOW the client. The attention to detail was prevalent. Our staff weren’t in a rush to finish. They took the time to make sure the smallest details were taken care of, that every wire was in place and every function tested twice. The entire system was well-documented as well, both for the client’s peace of mind and also for our purposes.
How difficult was it to gather all the materials you needed to enter the awards program?
We knew that to win we had to have more than just a great project, but a great presentation of that project to the judges. Each of our team that was involved was assigned certain tasks in the assembly of information. To make sure all the materials were being assembled in a timely and accurate manner, we assigned a Lead Person to coordinate everyone’s efforts and make sure that we had a by-the-book entry.
