LCD Shipments Rose in Q3

Global shipments of LCD TVs rose 12.9 percent year over year in the third quarter, according to numbers released Monday by research firm DisplaySearch.

LCD shipments reached 51.5 million, or 83.1 percent of all TVs. Other TV technologies all shrank, with OLED plunging 73 percent and plasma display and CRT panels dropping 2 percent and 7 percent, respectively.

3D, meanwhile, accounted for 11 percent of TV units and 27 percent of revenues.

In terms of brands, Samsung is now #1 worldwide in LCD, plasma and overall shipments, claiming 22.8 percent of the market. LG is second, followed by Sony, Panasonic and Sharp.
