A roundup of audio, projector, mount, screen and home theater seating news from CEDIA 2010:
Professional Home Cinema explained the renaming of its company as Pro Audio Technology. Larry Reagan, vice president of the company as well as VP of sales and marketing, said the name change reflects the company's transition from a dedicated home theater company to its core value of applying professional technology to all products in a variety of settings, including a home's distributed audio system or commercial venues.
Pro Audio Technology is taking "a professional sound approach to the home" with its professional multichannel amplifier with DSP engine. The PMA-Series Programmable Modular Amplifiers utilize a four-channel mainframe driven by a proprietary dealer programmable DSP engine. The DSP front end includes digital crossover filters for all PHC loudspeaker models and easy-to-use system set-up and calibration abilities. Energy-efficient Class-D amplification is provided via ICEpower®, supplying up to 4,000 watts in a single 2-RU chassis weighing a mere 20 pounds.
The PMA-Series are the first products to introduce ultra-high resolution wide-band FIR (Finite Impulse Response) digital equalization to loudspeaker processing for the home environment. This results in final loudspeaker acoustic response an order of magnitude beyond that currently achievable through conventional passive or active methods.
projectiondesign's announcements include the introduction of the avielo optix SuperWide 235. The world's first native 2.35:1 home-theater projector uses the latest high pixel-density DLP chip, developed in partnership with Texas Instruments (TI), to deliver true 2538 x 1080 resolution. No more black bars, no more secondary lenses softening image clarity.
Additionally, the company featured the avielo optix 3D - the company's own unsurpassed take on 3D projection for home theaters. Based on the avielo optix Full HD projector, the avielo optix 3D adds a proprietary image processing engine to create 3D from stereoscopic sources including the latest Blu-ray Disc players and sources with single HDMI 1.4 outputs.
In home theater seating/furniture arena, Salamander Designs has introduced five new models within its Chameleon line of CE furniture: Oslo, Barcelona, Corsica, Elba and Venice. The company's new wall mount, designed to configure with the Chameleon line as well as Salamander's Synergy line, can be hung at any height. The aluminum rail rack mount attaches to studs, creating an aesthetically pleasing and functional accessory.
Salamader's new LED lighting system, a CustomRetailer EXC!TE Award winner, creates an appealing accent to cabinetry or televisions. The lighting systems come in 14" and 23" lengths.
HiFi Cinema Seating offers the i-Fi Chair, which provides a fully immersive audio experience right in the confines of a home theater lounger. The company spent more than three years developing the technology, that would please even the most discerning audiophile, to achieve an unparalleled audio experience.
The speaker system includes a 4" intreated paper cone woofer for natural sounds; 1" soft dome tweeter; two-way monitor crossover; cabinet design and shape to minimize diffraction; and high-density MDF for cabinet resonance. The chair also include an integrated iPod and iPod Touch dock.
HiFi Cinema also touts the health and wellness benefits of the chair, claiming that it instantly relaxes and destresses owners. Other advantages include personalization of audio volume/experience. The chair's MSRP is $4,995.
Over at WallWizard, a new mount company launched this past May, it was showcasing an exclusive product, the ControlWand, a software application that permits remote control operation of the brand's motorized mounts from Apple iPad, iPod, iPhone via Wi‐Fi, and smartphones via Bluetooth.
WallWizard's Control System is a two‐piece solution that consists of the brand's proprietary ControlWand software application, which consumers download from App stores at a selling price of $9.99, and a Wi‐Fi / Bluetooth accessory that is available from authorized dealers at a selling price of $119.99. According to sales and marketing VP, Craig Matthews, WallWizard is the first and only mount brand to offer such an application.
The team at SnapAV has introduced the Camden Ceima Seating line at CEDIA 2010. Adam Levy touts the same-day shipping service, which was instated because of dealer requests. "We want to be the No. 1 reason dealers succeed, giving them profitable lines in many areas.
Levy also is proud that the company has been launching a new speaker product every month for the last 18 months, including the new in-wall Episode line. This line includes an integrated back box and planar magnetic ribbon in the line's 900 series.
Beginning this month the company is implementing its Double Money Back Guarantee Program. If the dealer encounters a problem installing a SnapAV product that is part of the program, they simply call the company's Technical Support team to troubleshoot the installation. If SnapAV can't solve the installation issue to the dealer's satisfaction, SnapAV will refund twice the cost of the product.
The first product backed by the program is the company's new BinaryTM HDMI 4x4 Matrix Switcher with HDMI and Cat5e/6 outputs.
Oasis Home Theatre Seating has a brand-new collection of entertainment seating for the homeowner seeking matching designs at affordable prices. Called the Sterling Family, the line is comprised of loungers, traditional cineplex style models and a matching barstool.
The new family includes the Lounger, Sterling HT, Sterling Budget Lounger, Sterling Budget HT. Prices range from $650 to $1,900.
CEDIA 2010 was also the venue for partnership announcements. U.S.-based Seymour AV and U.K.-based Screen Excellence -- both industry leaders in acoustically transparent woven fabric projection screens -- have founded a joint venture that combines the best of each company's technology platforms, namely Seymour AV's patent-pending electric retractable screens and Screen Excellence's fixed-frame, in-ceiling and masking screens.
