NuVision to Show 9 New LED Models at CEDIA Expo

LED TV supplier NuVision is heading into the CEDIA Expo at the end of the month with nine new models designed to roll out beginning in October through 2011 to the “super-affluent” market it targets, said CEO David Hester.  They will range from 22 to 72 inches and seven of the nine, which are 40 inches and larger, will be 3D-capable. They will include what he said will be the first 72-inch 480Hz 3D-ready direct-lit LED LCD TV: the FX10 series model NVU72CS ($15,999), slated to launch in December.  A 55-inch 480Hz model at $8,999 will follow in March 2011, according to the company.  Both models will have IP connectivity out of the gate, with other newly released models to be upgraded accordingly in late 2010 or early 2011.

There are three edge-lit LED sets – a 60Hz 22-inch model and 120Hz 32- and 40-inch models – due out next April built on NuVision’s next-generation FX5 platform. Four other edge-lit LED models will use the next-gen FX10 240Hz platform. Two 55-inch versions, a 46-inch and a 40-inch set will be released in the October-through-January timeframe.

Hester said the brand grew its sales 100 percent year-on-year in 2010, and increased its dealer network by 412 percent since March 2009. It now boasts a foothold in 520 retail outlets that include eight Magnolia Design Centers. He added that NuVision’s Magnolia presence would expand into Magnolia Home Theater stores “plus some more Design Centers,” to the tune of 57 total by year’s end because “Magnolia is aiming for the same luxury market we do. They aim for the same top 10 percent. It’s the right synergy.”   

Other 2010 distribution milestones for NuVision, Hester said, included product availability to HES members through the buying group’s Expert Warehouse.  Also, he cited several retailers who either have or are in the process of creating either dedicated NuVision rooms or Nuvision-branded space. These include Hippo’s, Gramophone, Talk of the Town, Worldwide Sales, 6th Avenue Electronics and Starpower.

NuVision also sells via its new consumer website, said Hester, but “we give the sale back to the local dealer and they deliver to the customer – we’re not cutting the dealer out of the equation.”

Chris Porter, vice president of engineering, explained that NuVision cherry-picks its components, with manufacturing done in Korea but all design and engineering executed at its Scottsdale headquarters. “We use discrete solutions for everything – several very expensive chips rather than a single-chip solution,” he said.
