Tier 2 of Energy Star Version 2.0's Audio/Video specification are set to take effect July 30, the program's administrators announced this week.

Under the new rules, the majority of products carrying the label will have to transition to a low-lower state when inactive for more than two hours.

The label will also identify products that are efficient in all phases, and it will also apply to such products as disc players and audio amplifiers, as well as home theater components.
