Recently two prominent Texas rep firms in the AV/wire/automation industry, Houston-based KK Associates and Fort Worth-based Lucas Sales, formed an alliance to create Integral Marketing Associates. Under this model, the two firms will divide a four-state area including Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas, with the Lucas team managing all northern markets and the KK team managing all southern markets.
CustomRetailer: How has Tributaries changed the way it does business to survive and ultimately thrive in this challenging economy?
There's no denying that high-voltage electricity is the foundation on which so much of the custom integration market is built. It powers the TVs you install, the lights your systems control, the touch-panel remotes that your customers are constantly running to recharge. And yet, so few integrators these days have a full-time electrician on staff, preferring instead to rely on subcontractors. Far too many in our channel view the electrical market much the same way automakers (at least for now) see the petroleum market: a distinctly separate but necessary industry.

CEDIA EXPO, September 7-10, 2011, has not been hosted in Indianapolis since 2005, and we at CustomRetailer are very excited to be going back to Indy! It's a very different town from last we were all there. The city has seen considerable growth and change.
CR: Sunfire pioneered powerful, small-form speaker enclosures. How does this design approach relate to today's market?
CustomRetailer: We wanted to talk to you about the directions in which you are leading the brand among residential and commercial custom integrators. Can you give a general synopsis of what your goals and aspirations are?
CR: What do you see is the biggest mistake electronic systems contractors are making now as it pertains to 3D?
Most service issues in A/V systems are directly related to networks or service providers. Recently networks have become increasingly complicated as end users continue to add new products into their systems, resulting in an overwhelming growth in service calls.
