Holidays set the stage for two-channel demos of LS4s

High-end audio emporium Stereo Exchange, in New York City’s SoHo district, played host for the kickoff of a series of dealer-based two-channel-only demonstrations of Wisdom Audio’s hand-crafted, flagship planar magnetic LS4 Reference Line Source loudspeakers this week.

The demos, held for audio press and for the public who responded to the store’s invitation, were conducted by Wisdom’s vice president of sales, Jon Herron, who put the speakers through their paces using a variety of music genres. The speakers, which sell for $40,000 each, were played in conjunction with Wisdom’s SC-1 system controller ($6,500) and its STS subwoofer ($10,000). The speakers, which boast what Herron called, “almost pro-sound sensitivity,” handle frequencies from 80Hz “to beyond audibility,” said Herron, and the STS accommodate frequencies below the 80Hz threshold.

Herron said that this flagship speaker is part of the company’s Wisdom series of triamplified speakers. The company also offers the Sage series of architectural speakers, and will soon offer the affordably priced Insight series, with introduction planned for the 2012 International CES, he said.

The next stop on the tour is at Coral Gables, Fla.’s Sound Components on Dec. 8, and additional demonstrations are planned for other areas of the country, to be announced on Wisdom’s web site.
