Honeywell debuts new products

The International Security Conference & Expo West (ISC West) took place in Las Vegas from April 5-7. Known as the the Security Conference & Exposition for the security industry, the very buoyant trade show attracted more than 1,000 exhibitors and nearly 25,000 visitors involved in all forms of security related products and services.

One of the key companies in attendance was Honeywell and the company is clearly moving far beyond security and is fully committed to integrated systems involving, security, lighting, HVAC and other services that are controlled through a single software platform.

Honeywell has done a complete refresh of its popular Total Connect web interface for remote services, adding support for Z-Wave thermostat and lighting controls and integration with Control4 home automation systems. Other new technologies on display at the event included enhanced aesthetics and common graphical interfaces for Honeywell’s LYNX self-contained and VISTA hybrid security systems, as well as an interoperability demonstration using Zigbee technology.

“Honeywell is expanding into lifestyle and peace of mind products, paving the way for true convergence, both in commercial and residential,” JoAnna Sohovich, president of the Honeywell Security and Communications, said during an early morning press conference. “We are participating in a big way on the Smart Grid committees. Ultimately you have to have the ability to shed loads in the sequence that your customer wants.”

“Managing security and so much more through the Internet is very scalable, for example, you can manage security from a single door up to hundreds of doors. Utilizing cloud based technology unlocks the Internet for the Honeywell dealer to make more money,” Scott Harkins, president of video and access systems, said.

Continuing on the point of the all important recurring monthly revenue, Jonathan Klinger, vice president of marketing for Honeywell Security & Communications said that “the rise of mobile apps, IP video, and open standards for home automation, creates tremendous opportunities for the security industry to enrich and broaden the appeal of its offering to tens of millions of homeowners. Honeywell’s forthcoming launches of connected-home solutions will enable its dealers to increase close rates, increase content per sale, increase recurring monthly revenue and reduce attrition.”
